I am currently unemployed and I need to obtain my CDL at one of the training companies because my unemployment check just isn't cutting it. I was told today by Prime that they aren't hiring out of Florida. Before I waste my time calling and filling out long apps I thought I would come to the guys that really know what's going on. So with that being said, are there any OTR training companies hiring from Florida right now or should I just call it quits?
Any hope getting hired in Florida?

Hey there! Believe me, we have been where you are... and it sucks! My husband went through National Training School (which, by the way LIES to you and will tell you that they have a 90% job placement rate... when infact they placed none of the students in my husbands class when they graduated- all out liars)!..... anyways, had to get that out.
We applied to roughly 150+ companies from everywhere! His fellow classmates did the same. My hubby was the first to get picked up (and it only took me filling out his app's 150 times, lol) after about 3 weeks out of school. Keep in mind that he had driven a single axle truck and beverage trailer AND he also drove an F450 and refrigerated trailer in Miami for 9 years also. So, my point is... he did have some experience. He has a few friends that were picked up about 2 months out of school (and yes, they were near starving by this time). So, there is hope to be hired out of Florida, but be prepared to fight for it! I suggest CRST (our friend isn't making much $ there... but it's a job) or P.A.M. Trucking (Hubby likes them so far). Good luck -
try comcar.there i auberndale FL.they even have there own school.hope this helps...good luck Walt

Florida sucks for trucking jobs.
Freight going in, not much going out.
Hard to get you home.
Alot of companies won't hire from Florida.
Local jobs down there generally don't pay squat. -
I tried them all...Comcar, CCC isn't hiring. CRST is doing teams. Werner may be a possibility but I'd rather poke my eyes out with a hot poker than drive for them.
You can try May Trucking in Pensacola. Ask for Jennifer. Micromanaging but smaller than the huge outfits and will get you that year you need to find something else. I had to "move" to GA to get in with them. I take my home time in FL -
Oh, I just reread what you posted. I thought you already had your CDL. May won't look at anyone that doesn't have their CDL (heck they won't hardly look at anyone that does). I don't have any advice. I got mine from the community college
