Came across a really nice 07 ram dually 6.7 and 68rfe transmission. Truck has 120k miles, no holes in the bed so I know it hasn't been towing anything too heavy. Thought of picking it up and outfitting it for a gooseneck or fifth wheel to run 26k lbs. It has an 5200# upgraded front axle from the factory, all the factory tow options apart from the goose setup in the bed.
I was planning on an enterprise truck for the first few months. With what I calculated I'd pay them I can pay off the this truck in a year, and the money I'd save not buying a new/newer truck could probably pay for a full rebuild if needed in the future.
Do older trucks have a problem getting work or do they just care about it passing a dot inspection? It's not a beat up truck, looks near mint. Anyone particularly familiar with the 07 that can educate me?
Any of you running older ram one tons?

Depends on the brokers. Age of your numbers makes a difference in the beginning. I run a 2000 f350 never been a issue with it. I started in 08 with 135,000 miles. I have 714,000 miles now put a new block in at 585,000 rebuild trans at 345,000. If you change the fluids and filters they can last a good while. I bought the truck new so I know everything that has been done.
24kHotshot Thanks this. -
Sorry it’s not a older ram.

Yea, been thinking about it all day. If it was a truck I already owned than I'd run it, but I might as well have less stress for the first few months while my numbers age and just go with the rental and also not lock myself into unneeded payments just yet.

Enterprise Truck ? How long could you do that ? I am completely ignorant on the cost. There are so many questions ( insurance, truck lettering, truck license ) I know Enterprise leases trucks to companies everyday and could guide you through the above questions. It seems to me that most companies lease through them weighing write off versus buying and maintaining. The cost being to high for starting out, increasing the chance of failure.

2018 Ram 3500 SLT SRW diesel crew cab with gooseneck hitch. 22 cents per mile, minimum payment of $1100 a month which includes the first 5000 miles "free".
If you are running 10k miles a month they will make you get a new truck every 6 months.
Commercial insurance + Enterprise's truck insurance is $225 a month for the truck mentioned above.
Truck comes pre registered for 26,000 lbs. You can register it for more if you are cdl and they will tell you how. They cover all truck costs except fuel or driver error.
$1500 deposit + $2000 "prepay" for the first month. They charge weekly after that for the miles you have done. I plan on probably putting my numbers on a magnet to start, i'll find a way to make them resistant to flying off. Also, I was told what I pay them is deductible.
If all goes well by the time I have to give it back I'll go buy a new truck.Lite bug Thanks this. -
