    Steve,

Werner will assign you a trainer, though I imagine if you knew someone there that was a trainer, they might be able to request to have you on board.

I drove dry van for Werner for 9 months (2010 - 2011) as I transitioned between employment (I do computer / network administration) and had a relatively positive experience.

While your mileage may vary, I had a great dispatcher, Clayton, who I got along with and he kept me busy. Every now and then, I had to keep on top of the night time dispatchers - a couple of them would always push new load assignments out till morning. Hated that.

No matter where you are, work hard at keeping a good relationship with dispatch. You might smirk at it now, but take 'em out for lunch if you can when you're at their terminal. Always be up-beat with them even if you'd like to tear their head off. It'll be good for you in the long run.

Well since no one else has contributed this essential piece of info, I'll put it her for educational purposes. The first post is a must read for Werner prospects...

I'm not reading all 61 pages but that's friggin' funny stuff!

Almost funnier than the trainer that blackmailed the driver into butt sex.

I got a flatbed trainer at Werner back in 2010. The whole division was 60 trucks, and there were fewer than 5 trainers among them. You might be waiting a good long while for a flatbed trainer if they even give you the option, considering the hundreds of drivers they funnel into training every week.

I got assigned a trainer on the bass pro account and have been on his truck for 2 weeks, he isn't a flatbed trainer but after my time with him is up I will need to go to Omaha for flatbed specific training. After reading all about werner trainers here, talking to drivers at the terminal and other people in orientation that have driven for werner my expectations were low and I sort of half thought I would end up fighting or having to swap trainers a few times. I got very lucky with my trainer, he is easy going, easy to get along with, he lets you know when you do something wrong AND when you do something right he makes sure you know it. Being a 53 year old owner operator with 19 years of driving and 12 years in the military probably has a lot to do with his personality and attitude.
