Has anybody here been through Swift’s CDL academy? I am just looking at different options and wanted to hear from people who have actually done it. I have spoken with one of their recruiters and she told me just to call her when I had my permit and she could get me set up. So just tell the good, the bad and the ugly! lol

Perhaps @Moosetek13 may be a contact that you can check with. He’s been driving for Swift a good number of years, unless he retired.

Good luck to you! God bless you an your entire family!

20 years ago, i was a trainer for Swift. Cdl school was 2 weeks and students were spoonfed (as with a lot of company schools) just enough to get a license. Then i got them.....
Showed them how to slide trailer tandems, ( no one knew they did that ;)) and how to shift-yup years ago:D. And backing skills, since most dont get that right away.
I found women easier to teach than men, but little more difficult to spend 6 weeks in truck with. But that sucked with everyone.
Now with automatic trucks its prolly shorter time with trainer..... learning to shift really did take time.
So i would think its differant now

Well any school really is only about getting the CDL because that is the first step.
How to do the actual job, hopefully well, is the job of the mentor/trainer.

Don't blame the schools for doing only what they are required (and paid) to do. It is unrealistic.
CDL school has only ever been about learning the pre-trip (which takes a LOT of time with many people) and very basic driving skills.
