I'm not a big trucker but I need a good winch when I go mudding with the guys because 'something' always seems to happen..
I've been debating weather or not to go with Warn M8000.. Anybody ever tried it?
$500ish bucks on Amazon, a lot better than what I saw in store

Anyone tried M8000 winch?

How much does the vehicle you will be mounting it on weigh ??
You need something that will pull more than your vehicle weighs to compensate for resistance...
Seems like I remember the formula being minimum 1.5x your vehicles weight or something ?? :smt017 -
Around 9000lbs, need to get it checked to be sure... I interested in how that formula works.

Google some towing forums, those guys are experts in those formulas on weight and resistance and can tell you what exactly you need.

If your vehicle is 9k you will need more than the 8k winch in your link... -

A Warn 8000 upright, always worked for me. Dunno if you can get one of those anymore but that was a good winch. Pulled out a K5 blazer too many times to count.

I used to know all this stuff when I was a Jeeper but that was a few years ago !!

I used to run a '72 Blazer with 40" Mudders and often buried those 40's out of sight. Warn 12000 winch never even strained bringing the old girl out again. Pulled out alot of 8K winch equipped trucks too.
One thing you can do with a 8000 tho is build yourseld a cage to mount it to and a "tongue" (or two) made with square tubing securely welded to the bottom. Now build corresponding mounts under the front and rear of your truck..... just like a trailer hitch setup. Now you can move the winch from front to rear if you need to.
Note: it's often alot easier to winch out of a hole through your own tracks into it.groundpounder Thanks this.
