I have a USDOT #, but my application for FMCSA Operating Authority (MC #) was previously dismissed because I didn't file $5,000,000 commercial insurance in time. How do I keep my USDOT # and reapply for Operating Authority? I know it'll cost $300, but not sure how to do it and still keep my USDOT #.

I think you can 'reactivate' that DOT #, $80 fee call and check with FMCSA.

Haven't gotten around to calling yet because I have my hands full with other issues. I'm sure it can't be that difficult if I got down to it except for the insurance.

You mean the right number is 1-800-832-5660? How long am I supposed to be put on hold? It never seems to end!

I was gonna call my local FMCSA field office if that didn't work.

Yes that is right number... try your local office. They do have long wait times though on that 800 number

Finally got through to them. They said I need to use my PIN to do a biennial update, then pay $300 to reapply for Operating Authority using the same USDOT and MC number.

    deathB4decaf Thanks this.
