I'm getting back in a truck after a 12 year break. I applied at Marten cause I was interested in their regional run and weekly guarantee. Upon talking to the recruiter today, she told me the only thing she had was OTR running 18 days out and no guarantee weekly pay but they do offer a signing bonus. Being out of Shreveport, LA, I thought I would be in a prime spot for weekly home time. Despite this, I know I'm new compared to 12 years ago and alot has changed. So I'm not completely shutting the door on Marten. I haven't done reefer before mainly because I was worried about getting stuck hours at a time waiting to get unloaded. What is your experience with Marten? Miles good? checks good? How's freight moving? Any and all info would be appreciated.
Approved for Marten

Robert,
If you are really interested in regional and pay guarantee why not look into another company rather than just settle for Marten? With reefer you more than likely will have a lot of waiting time and delays at customers. The bonus money will not make up for what you are really looking for. Most times bonus money is because they can't get enough drivers to fill their open positions. Marten might be a good fit but there are other companies that might be a better place for you. Good luck in whoever you choose.hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
Wait, Marten is going to hire you without some sort of refresher and you haven't driven commercially in 12 years? If true, run to Marten!

Reefer is OK. I did it for 18 yrs. OTR and liked the job just fine or wouldn't have stayed so long.
Marten has a good reputation. I didn't work for Marten, but wouldn't hesitate to go there if I was on the job hunt.Stonehjl, bryan21384 and navypoppop Thank this. -
As for wait times for loading and unloading, you'll get detention pay for that.
bryan21384 Thanks this. -
Well I've been pre approved and recruiter was ready to move forward today, but I hesitated because of the 3 weeks out. My understanding is I would go through their orientation and then go with a trainer for 2-3 weeks to get refreshed in everything.

Yeah, I'm calling BS on this.....Pickleball and navypoppop Thank this.

Elsewhere -- you mentioned earlier that KLLM offered $1700/wk guaranteed....plus -- you'd be home weekends with them.
If that is in fact (still) true -- why go with Marten?
Marten probably won't pay you that much....

-- LLonesome, navypoppop and snowmantrucking101 Thank this.
