All said, the trainers and instructors darned near work miracles, given the time they have to work with students. The ones I had, I would have loved to spend far more time with, to pick their brains. Problem being, more time isn't available.

As a driver all these things are your responsibility to know. So for trainers to expect this is no surprise really. As far as learning and knowing all off the top of your head is a bit crazy. Thats why they have books with the regs in them. Heck aren't load limits stamped on straps and chains too? Memorization comes after repetition. Not two weeks with a trainer.

Yeah I wasnt trying to be sarcastic... It seems like with the decreased road training time people are talking about it would be very difficult to turn out a competent driver in that time.

actually, not always. roehl has lots of old straps and weird straps that aren't marked, and that means they're good only for the 4000-pound legal minimum. the new ones are marked 5400, but there's no telling what you'll have.

and the 6600-pound limit on a grade 70 3/8-inch transport chain doesn't matter if it's held on by a 5400-pound snap binder. lots of snap binders are either unmarked or the marks are unreadable.

all you have to know on my truck is this:

-straps are counted only for 4000 pounds. i don't care what they're marked.
-coil racks are good only for 10,000 pounds, each.
-snap binders are good for 5400 pounds.
-ratchet binders are good for 6000 pounds.
-5/16 chain is good for 4700 pounds.
-3/8 chain is good only for 5400 or 6000, depending on which binder you use.

but you have to know it before i'll let you go.

I just envisioned chatting with you in the yard then saying "Well, gotta get going." then you say "Wait a minute, what's the WLL on this stuff?" Then I'm like, "What? I got things to do bud..." then you're like "You're not going anywhere, until you tell me.". Then I'm like "Hey, let me go!" then you say "No." then I'm all "what the heck is going on?!"

    Uhm, I'm tired. :). lol

    It is an ancient Mariner,
And he stoppeth one of three.
`By thy long grey beard and glittering eye,
    Now wherefore stopp'st thou me?

The bridegroom's doors are opened wide,
    And I am next of kin;
The guests are met, the feast is set:
    Mayst hear the merry din.'

He holds him with his skinny hand,
"There was a ship," quoth he.
`Hold off! unhand me, grey-beard loon!'
    Eftsoons his hand dropped he.

He holds him with his glittering eye -
    The Wedding-Guest stood still,
And listens like a three years' child:
    The Mariner hath his will.

I found that the nerves havent gone away much since starting RDTC. Every day I find a new challenge (or 3) to deal with. Failure is STILL not an option, though, so each problem has to be met head-on. Be prepared for long days and sleeping like a rock. Lol!

It will continue most of your first year. Then it will come and go after that.
