APU weight exemptions

    Some time ago there was a thread here in which we talked about APU exemptions as applied to gross weight (I forget the exact thread, too lazy to look it up). I remember there was some discussion on which states offered the exemption as well as how much leeway was given on the weight.

    I just now ran across a handy little chart outlining the exemptions for each state and thought it might come in handy for some drivers equipped with APU's. Enjoy:

    What's the difference between enforcement policy and law?

    i think, and quote me if i'm wrong...

    enforcement policy = upto them?
    law = no choice but to abide by that.

    Enforcement means that it is still against the law on the books but the state has chosen not to enforce the law. In other words, some states have not adopted the federal APU exemption meaning you by law do not get the 400 pound or 550 pound extra weight above 80,000 (or axle weight. But those states marked "enforcement" have chosen as a matter of policy to allow the APU exemption.
