While the use of apu's has many advantages,no one seems to talk about the exhaust coming from those exhaust pipes at the bottom of the trucks.
Hot air rises and if you are parked next to a truck running one, well where do those "environmentally friendly" units vent to? Right into the bunk area of the truck next to it.
I,m all for saving fuel ,however I shouldn't have to sleep with those fumes in my bunk. Ideally the wind would carry it away but usually there's someone on the other side.
Couldn't the manufactures of these machines devise a way to reroute the exhaust, maybe tie into existing truck exhaust pipes and vent into the air above the trucks?
Breathing those fumes while trying to sleep, cant be healthy.

Farting creates pollution also.... But I don't hear anyone talking about that nasty air! And no person deserves to sleep with that air!!!

hippies that don't take showers pollute my sinus cavity but I don't see a law forcing them to shower.

Also you cant route it into the trucks exhaust due to the air pressures when the truck is running it would force air the wrong direction into the apu forcing it to turn backwards the whole time your driving.

FyI I am sitting on top of my apu and the fumes don't bother me any. Then again if fuel was cheaper I would just idle my big kitty kat on high idle till the cows come home and I don't own any livestock

An APU's output is miniscule compared to being parked next to a running truck with a grassburner exhaust system. A few Stevens trucks have just about fumigated me.

If a new APU starts to smoke and stink really bad, it probably needs service..

I have a Carbon Monoxide alarm in my truck. If it goes off, I'll be pounding on the truck putting that muck out and telling the driver to get out, shut off the APU and air his or her truck out. If I'm getting it in mine, you can be sure it's filling theirs as well.

I have parked with a lot of APUs next to me and never had that alarm sound off.

you can tie the apu into your stack you just need to install a check valve on the apu..
or you can run a 1-1 1/2 pipe next to your stack for the apu
or run a flex pipe to the back by the mudflap

One solution would be to fire up your own APU and set up industrial shop fans aimed at your neighbors' APU's to direct the exhaust away from your truck.
