I am looking into getting my Class A as I used to drive for Greyhound quite some time ago. I was wondering if I go to a local school and get my CDL A, would I do better if I find a job driving say a Water Truck? We have the Natural Gas industry here in Western Pa.
I'm not even sure which path pays the better wages, a water bottle or tractor and trailer? I don't have a family to worry about so traveling is not a problem, it's just that with non-violent felony my employment opportunities are limited.
Thanks.
Are different industries more forgiving for lack of experience/felony?

you could always stop one and ask the boss dude.
Wargames Thanks this. -
Why not look at a trade that doesn't make it hard for felons and pays better than trucking? The market is flooded with inexperienced drivers. Freight rates are low. Electricians, plumbers, HVAC and other trades may make more money and be hiring newbies.

You might qualify for free cdl school, no cost to you, through the state WIOA Program.

If you acquire a cdl through the WIOA Program, several companies will hire you, even with the felony.
Are you in PA or where? OK, got it, Pittsburg area.Last edited: Mar 26, 2025

CRST and Stevens Transport both hire for their in-house cdl training. Felons hired on a case-by-case basis.
