I see more and more pickups with 3-5 car trailers delivering to dealerships. Mostly used cars looks like to/from auctions. Are these guys taking over the short haul? Was thinking going into car hauling, but changed my mind after talking to some drivers at the rail yard.
I do P&D and for every big truck there are 10 pickups. Everyone is saying that there is no money with this set up, but this guys pop up all over the place.

The small trucks are very popular here. They don't pull a trailer at all, just a truck with 2 levels, and usually 2 cars on the top level, and 3 on the bottom. For me it would make a lot more sense to do it that way than a pickup pulling a trailer does. Or skip the top level and have just a 3 car hauler. Reka builds them, and last week i saw one sitting at a dealership, so i stopped and had a look. Was very impressed by the quality and the driver says it handled so much better than his last unit, which was a Dodge dually diesel pulling just a 3 car trailer. It uses the same amount of fuel to he claims, but hauling 5 cars not 3.

Would anyone want to drive a 7 or 10 car hauler around city streets? A 3-5 car hauler doesn't make 'big' money like the big rigs but he only runs may be 100 miles a day earning 200-300 that's good enough for some people.

I don't think they can pay the insurance on $200-300 a day. Most of them with new Ram 5500 4-5 and a few brave souls even 6 car trailers.
I pull a 48 footer around town every day no big deal in single screw day cab.

how much would you consider "big" money like the big rigs? im running a dually 3 car and know a few others doing it. you can do 4-8k a week running 5-6 days a week. im interested in what big rigs are pulling in weekly.

From what I’ve heard big rigs running regional are making 5-6k a week. If you can pull 4-8k with a dually and 3 car trailer you are doing good. I’ll say pretty pretty good.

Our best week was 10k working 7 days. November we did 31k. Mtd we are at 19k. But we aren’t owner operator and driver is driving 14 hours a day, sometimes more. And myself and my partner have to prepare cars sometimes so driver can pick up and go. So we doing good but it’s a lot of work on everyone to make it happen.

Consider $700 to $1000 per vehicle, 7 to 10 vehicles per 1500 mile trip. One driver can do round trip once a week.
