Are the best jobs not found online?

Best jobs have very little turnover. New positions open up either thru retirements or expansions. Door knocking is how you get your foot in the door.

 

Gotta go directly to the company website, to apply for those jobs.

 

It depends on the company. Some companies almost post bathroom schedules for employees online while other companies haven't heard of the internet. Some companies only post jobs to the public after it's been posted on the company website for employees and it goes unfilled. EVERY newbies seems to equate "no company web site" with "does not exist on earth."

Indeed and Glassdoor leave posted jobs visible to all for months or years after they are filled so they can brag about how many jobs they have listed which people think means "more jobs equals this is where good jobs can be found."

I usually make the point to avoid making an online-only job search as you will see lots of jobs that are empty because they are alwasy losing drivers or the company will manipulate their wording of the job description so the unwary will think they are being told one thing (that isn't true) while the company can argue "we never said THAT."

 

That depends how aggressive you are. Coming from pre-internet days, practically all my jobs were found by either talking to other drivers or just go in and ask. The internet for companies today, is like a rollodex of potential drivers, and a seemingly endless supply of candidates. I say it's better to go in, but I'm not too sure how receptive companies are to that today. On the internet, you may as well stand in line, I say it's still better to show your face. It sets you apart from all the others, and that might be all it takes.

 

I think it is safe to say that companies that are people oriented will welcome a prospective employee taking the time to walk in and introduce himself, whereas companies run by the numbers would rather you stay an anonymous number on a computer.

 

Like companies that treat drivers "like family"? NOT! lol

 

The BEST jobs? Word of mouth only. $200k+/year and local.

 

I feel like I have the best job there is trucking driving one for Walmart. But there's no such thing as walking up somewhere here and talking to anyone about putting in an application. It's all online and you have to apply for the specific job you want. It has to be a job they posted or there's no spot available. And don't waste your time with 3rd party sites like indeed, etc either go directly to their site.

 

The best job? That's subjective. If the job checks all your boxes, then it's the best job according to you. For me, I care about good equipment, steady miles, steady pay, and an efficient maintenance department. So in my mind, I think I have the best job.
