Hello Forum, my name is Jonathan Im a newbie searching for a company to go with. Ive applied with most training companies and only CRST gave me a call back. I applied with - Cr England, Driver Solutions, Swift, Prime, Schneider, CRST, and Stevens. But not one of them called back but CRST. I called CR England and the recruiter told me they dont hire at all in Florida. The only way they could help me is if I can find a relative in Georgia I would use their address but when Im coming back they would send me to Georgia not my area so I would pay my own to get home and that will take less time for my hometime anyway. Driver Solutions never gave me a call. I called Swift they told me they hire in FL but not in the southern part of Florida. Prime told me the same thing but they dont go lower than St. Petersburg. Never heard from Schneider but I dont think they even hire in FL because most companies dont. CRST gave me a call and told me they would place me in a school. Stevens never heard from them either. Ive read so many negative things about CRST that I dont even want to go with them. Their pay is really low .22cpm and over the road drivers do team not solo so thats another reason I would hate to go with CRST. I dont know what to do now, I found this forum after doing a lot of researching so Id though this forum could maybe help. Are there any other options I could do?

Try Rohel, they hire out of Florida, but I don't know if they will get you in the Miami area. They have a drop yard in Jacksonville.

I'm no expert, and I am a newbie myself, but I am also an older person and have seen this kind of thing again and again. If you live nowhere in the middle of farmland, you have to go to the city to get the job. If CRST is the only one to reply to you, and you can't move to another area, you suck it up and go with them for a year, and then switch jobs to something you like better. If you read this forum a bit, you will find that this is a central theme. I have learned to silent my "great expectations," and know that I will need to be a soldier and do my time like everyone else before I can start asking for things. Your first year is about learning and gaining experience. As a new driver, you'll get the worst loads, the worst home time and so on anyway. You cope and adapt. I think the only option is to move to St. Petersburg.

Also, even though many people print negative things about a company that does not mean that they will screw you. After you get a year of hard time in, you then will be able to pick and chose a bit. Like someone said in a great post I read, (and which deepened my understanding) they are not there to make things convenient for the driver. This is all about customer service, and you are not the customer they are talking about.

Someone also said that you have to look at your first year as though you were in the military, going through boot camp and deploying to a war zone. There is no "home time." You are lucky if you get it once in a while. As you prove your value to the company, they treat you better, but at the beginning you are pretty interchangeable with any other goof off the street they can find.

I too, came into this thinking I could pick and choose. Now I'm thinking more like I am glad to have a job that pays anything.

I guess your right. For the moment I cant move. I just want to go with a company where I would learn enough to get my CDL. A school with good instructors where I could learn and understand. Everything is starting of but there is a place better than another. People will always try to look for the better and the one that will most likely workout for them. I guess I have no choice but to go with CRST. Was not my choice but I will have to do it

Yes and May is a reefer co so they might be able to get you to south FLorida. Many dry box companies dont go to south Florida b/c there isnt much freight for a dry van down there and if you do find freight its cheap paying. Gotta remember tho from Pensacola to North Miami Beach is between 650-700 miles, thats a long ride to get home when you are just coming off the road, been there done that. I live 45 miles east of Pensacola and many companies didnt hire from my area, not much freight even tho I-10 are I-65 are nearby. Your 1st year is rough in all aspects, but hang in there it gets better....kinda. Back in '89, my 1st year, I hired on with Wingate Taylor Made (anybody remember them?) out of Albany, GA for 18 cents a mile and I was glad to have it :biggrin_25513:. I routinely was kept away from home 4-6 weeks and then they would only get me into the Albany terminal so I still had a 100 mile trip home, that was a long ride after 4 weeks in a truck, a cabover truck yet.:biggrin_25510:
