Hey all, first time poster here.
I'm a recent CDL grad in Upstate NY and have been applying to various local jobs in my area (Hudson Valley region of NY). I recently got a call back from ARG Trucking performing bulk petroleum hauling saying they would like to interview me next week.
Is there anyone on here who has experience with them? Either worked for, currently working, or knows someone who has worked or is currently working for them? I know the pay during training is 13-something an hour and .35 per mile. After completion, the hourly rate goes up to 16-something an hour and mileage remains at .35 per mile. It increases periodically over the course of a year to an hourly rate of (I believe) $20 an hour and (I want to say) close to, or over, .40 per mile.
My questions are:
- How many many miles are in a typical night?
- How long (time) are the average nights on the job?
- How much money can one reasonably expect to make (gross or take home) per paycheck?
And most importantly;
- Is it worth it to pursue a career here over a career with Con-way Freight?
Any insight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Don't know what they pay. But I see them around the terminals all the time. Never asked about the money. But most bulk hauling companies hauling gas keep the shifts at 10-12 hours and double shift the trucks. Gas has a lot of night and weekend work. They do some other products too, it's worth interviewing for. You would probably be home every day!

Thanks! I'll definitely interview for the position. I have an interview with Con-way a day after my interview with ARG, so I'm just trying to weigh my options. I know a fair amount about the workings of Con-way, but almost nothing about ARG.

There were a couple of guys on here a while ago talking about arg. Maybe they'll chime in...

I worked for ARG, domiciled out of Plattsburgh last winter. I cant speak for every one but the work up here sucked. The money is not great for the work you have to do, and you only get paid every 2 weeks, its hard to make good money getting paid milage at a local job. You get 13 somthing an hr to train and then go to .35cpm and 15 sommething an hr to load and unload, it gos up a little at time to .42cm and 20.50 an hr. If your new to the bussiness it would be a good place to start, but i wouldnt pass up Con-way. Most of the trucks are old junk macks. If I was you I would look into Wadhams, most of them make more money hauling milk than petroleum. You can PM if you have more questions.
bimcheech Thanks this. -
Thanks, I am relatively new to the industry, so I feel it would be valuable experience, if not a "career". Con-way sure would be nice, I'm just not confident about my chances of getting on there. We'll have to wait and see.
