Agreed. Spend the money on a laminated version... that'll last you a year. Don't forget to pick up a 2012 Truckstop Guide (gives you more than just what's off of the interstate,) and a copy of "The Last Exit" - lets you know what is off of that interstate exit. Keep the receipt and give it to your accountant for a tax deduction.

    Yup.

I just DAT Trucker Services. It's very handy for when you need to find a quick truck stop. Though I also recommend at least getting the small pocket truck stop guide for those times your phone GPS don't work. Pocket guide is like $6 I think at Prime.

    Few others I use:
Blue Beacon App (shows nearby blue beacons which we use for our washes)
    TripPak App (scan trips)
    Loves App (Coupons!)
    -Then my weather apps-
    Weather Channel
    Radar Now Premium

The truck stop guides are very handy... Also very needed when you need a place to park. The name brand truck stops usually fill up fast, but the "off brand" ones sometimes still have parking. Usually better food too

I dont recommend coming to Prime with anything extra other than what most people suggest in the packing guide. No point in having items that your instructor or trainer already has. He should have an Atlas, truck stop guides etc... It takes up space having two of everything, and space on a truck is at a premium.

Who knows, maybe you hold off till your on your own and by then the newest version of the Atlas is out, or you can get the old one at a discount.

Good advice! I do have that in mind but i didnt think an atlas in my laptop case would add much to what im already bringing. But you are probably right, best to wait till im solo.

My daughter bought me one at a Flying J in Oklahoma for $25. 2012 and all laminated and stuff. Very cool, so look for deals locally, too.

One of the fellows that works for me used to drive OTR for that big orange company. When we hired him, he gave me a very well-worn 2002 copy of Road Life Publications' Pocket Truck Stop Guide. He told me that the only two documents I absolutely, positively needed were the truckers map and this guide. I will look for an updated version soon enough.

Oh. And I'm gonna load up the iPhone and iPad with every truck-related app I can find. Hmmm...I wonder if there's a forum for trucker software. I must go look.
