Aspiring Missouri truck driver needing help

Roehl has a decent program...if i were going the company sponsored route i would have gone with them.

 

Well, Im a Prime company driver and have been for 11 months now, so I am going to clear something up. As far as pay goes, Prime starts their new drivers off at .36 cpm AFTER training, then as a company driver you will be driving a Light Wt truck so you can add in an additional .05 cpm. Now that brings your pay up to .41 cpm after training. I have been running around 2500 miles per week, so you do the math.
Now if there is any company's out there that will pay a new driver more than .41cpm right after training, please PM me as I would like to know.
As far as leasing goes, In my opinion any new driver that leases a truck is insane. They don't have a clue what they are getting themselfs into, If you want to lease then I would recommend driving for the company for a year or 2 at least and learn the ropes. I can say for a fact I have never been asked to go lease here at Prime and I know of alot of other drivers who say the same. So stating that people are being forced into a lease here is a bunch of hoohaa. My 2 cents worth.

If you got out of the military with an Honorable discharge - check into VRAP - Veterans Retraining Assistance Program... there are some stipulations though.
Also, there was a limited number of applications being accepted (there are only about 12,000 left). The program started in June or July of this year. It's for veterans that don't have or qualify for a GI Bill and who are unemployed, and haven't received any other type of government funding / assistance for training.

Ok, I know where Warrensburg is. I graduated from high school at CrestRidge just west of Warrensburg. LOL my whole graduating class of 40 had the multipurpose building at CMSU for our gradnight party thing.

 

Chillicothe was my hometown. I fought the Battle of Knob Noster back in the 70's. No Russians crossed the Mississippi on my watch.

Fort Scott Community College is a great place to get your start. It is in Kansas City, KS. Swift has a big terminal here. Lots of trucking jobs in KC. Prime is out of Springfield. TDC out of Joplin. You are in a great place for Trucking.

 

You can go to Sedalias Community College and get your CDL they have a hand full of companies that they work with that will pay for you to get a CDL through them.
Is also that CDL IN DAY and DONS TOWING that can get you your CDL in one day for 400.00.
Carlyle Van Lines will hire you on as local driver about 500.00 a week, then in the spring you could go OTR for them.
Holiday moving, North America in Sedalia, The trash companies, Busch, Pepsi. You have a TON of option.

Get a pre hire from Schneider and that will get you into the sedalia community college program. Get a pre hire from Werner, and Schneider because they actually work with the college.

I would go with USA Truck if I was you. They're up against the ropes financially and they're taking the gloves off as far as giving drivers the long loads that we all crave. If you're a newbie, that means lots of runs to California and all points west. You might be able to pull down 50k your first year if you stay out for 4-5 weeks at a time. They are really getting ready to light it up as far as miles go. It's the place to be the if you are new to the industry. They believe in giving everybody a chance, so there is plenty of room for making your big mistakes. And since they are so desperate for drivers, they are going to be giving a lot of leeway which means that if you show them a good attitude and don't curse anybody out or threaten people then it will be smooth sailing.

The non driving work force there takes some getting used to, but it's nothing personal, it's just the way those people are. The talent pool is limited in the areas that they operate.

I worked there a long time ago. I'm in between jobs right now and I'm even considering going back to help them save the company.
