I just purchased a new Astatic 636L mic for my rig and it sounds and looks awesome, but the chrome cord is way too long and hangs halfway to the floor. I know it's a popular mic, so has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Obviously I could just tie some of it up with some string or a rubber band, but as nice as my cb setup and cab look, I really would like to come up with a cleaner and more professional looking solution. Any ideas?

I have never owned an astatic 636L mic, but looking on eBay I see the cord extends to 7 1/2 feet long, which is pretty long for a mic cord. I guess your options would be to 1. return it where you purchased it, or 2. cut the cord off and re-solder the connector on the end. I have no idea if these mics come with different length cords or not, it’s something I hadn’t thought about until now.

I had mine looped and zip tied really nice to shorten up the cord with out it looking like a birds nest. On my current truck I have it ran along the ceiling since I have the mic hanging back where I sit instead of up front.

    IrreverentCrawfish Thanks this.

I use a mic keeper and a small fabric coated bungy cord hooked to the passenger visor rod to pull it up and out of the way.

Better to buy one with a coiled cord.
Don't get it caught on your air valves.

Does it have the stainless cord? If so wrapping it up could pinch the wires inside the outside cord. Take it to a CB shop and see if they have a shorter cord.

I have always run the Road king 56, and never had any trouble with her. I run it on my General Lee, and my Superstar 158

Took mine to the CB shop and had it shortened. I think it cost $10.
