    Hello all,

It has been a hectic 6 months but I am trying to stay focused.

    Here's whats been going on:

Over a week ago I got kicked out of the place I was staying at temporarily because I was not on the lease and the apartment manager found out me and my dog were there.

I had no choice but to live in my car for a little while. It was rough having to hide my dog while I was at work so I was able to take my dog to my moms house for the time being.

I dont want my dog to stay there permanently because my aunt lives with my mom and she has 4 dogs and 2 of them have been fighting with my dog.

I also really didnt want to put that responsibility on my mom because she is older but I had no one else.

I tried taking my dog to the spca and I told them I was homeless and they said "theres a process, your dog has to be evaluated before we accept her, if we even have room"

My dog has been with me since she was a puppy, she has seperation anxiety and I am very close with her.

I just got into a room for rent that I found through a friend of mine who is a preacher. I told him my situation, he says that he wants to see how things go with me first and then he will think about letting my dog stay with me.

Last month I got my CDL A learners permit, and I was able to get a 2- year medical dot card this month

I got my passenger endorsement and tanker endorsement on my permit just in case.

I still have my job working full time doing security.

When I was on the street I was taking showers at planet fitness, I was doing what I needed to to keep my mind in check and I was still showing up to work on time doing what I needed to do.

I cant afford health insurance through my job and I am barely scraping by.

I don't want to leave my dog or surrender her.

I have my permit and I want to stay local, going over the road is non negotiable at this point.

I am willing to downgrade to a Class B to get a local job.

I would even volunteer so I can learn on my days off.

I have put in applications to DART for fixed bus operator but have not heard anything back. I am thinking about going to their main office in dover and speaking with them in person since all I get is prerecorded messages and I cant talk to a live person.

    I need ideas.

My roommate says she is willing to take my dog out while I am at work, so that is covered.

Even a part time driving job would be ideal.

I am not open to school bus jobs though, that is a hard no. There isnt enough hours in that and I dont have the patience for kids and there is too much bureacracy dealing with parents and all that. There has been some drivers tell me horror stories so its a hard no

    Anything other than that.

    What are some good options?

What would you do in my shoes?

Your accent sounds as if you're from Seaford, Delaware.

Not much you can do until you get the CDL-A with all endorsements.

Try an employment agency and ask about courier driving jobs.

TTR turned into a psychiatric office so fast, ye' hardly noticed. You are all over the place, very common in these situations, and you need to prioritize. Now that you are in the situation you have gotten into, you will be desperate for any solution, and that's a bad start. I'm not a pet person, and marvel how people put the pets well being before their own, and until you get settled, the dog should be the last of concern. Sorry, you pay the bills, not the dog. Many OTR companies are allowing pets, but not in a local setting. I'm not sure about the incentive to be a truck driver, many with no experience usually end up doing something else, it's not a job you can just walk into. I'd rethink this, heck, Walmart offers health benefits, that should be your priority., and Scruffy, of course.

I would get your dog if she in spca. Then why not look at going OTR or even regional. I run regional and my company lets us take dog on truck. There might be weight limit on the dog every company is different. If you run OTR you have a place to stay and insurance. You can live in truck 24/7 with dog driving around USA.

Their was some guy on here month ago had same problem. He found a company that would train him and took his dog on truck from the start. I don’t remember if had to finish his training and have CDL fist but he always said he was not giving up his dog.

These trucking company will train you give you place to stay even feed you. You can get back on you feet, and you can’t quit if trucking get difficult. You can if wanted to but, once you do all the work to get driving and keep you dog why give up if trucking if you a bad day or week. You just keep going

Trucking isn’t the end all be all, and you have a ways to go before you are behind the wheel making any money, it’s very difficult for drivers with clean records and all the letters on their license to get a decent job, it’s not impossible just a long road

ONCE you get your CDL look around town, see those BIG TRUCKS moving dirt around town
    CDL
    Those cement trucks
    CDL
    Pepsi and Coke
    CDL
    City Bus companies
    CDL

Decide what you want to do but get the CLASS A CDL FIRST

Exactly right. Get the Class-A CDL. This way, you can drive Class-A and Class-B trucks. Many more job opportunities with the CDL-A license. The Class-B CDL really limits job opportunities and pay.

Thank you all for your response and advice.

The incentive for becoming a truck driver is my interest in the lifestyle and how it lines up with me as a person and the fact that I want to finish what I started 6 years ago because I feel like I owe to my father who passed in 2020.

I went to truck driving school in 2019 and learned to drive a 10 speed manual, it was a great feeling. Nerve racking at first but very satisfying to learn.

I never followed through because my father was dying and I decided to stay close to home and I just didnt feel confident going back at the time because so much time had lapsed.

I made sure that in some way, shape or form that I stayed around logistics in whatever job I had.

I love to drive, I don't feel at home anywhere and have been moving all around, I like to help people, I am not a clean cut corportate person, I like to spend alot of time alone, I am a very slow moving person so I could never make it working in a factory or assembly line, I am very safety oriented, I have a lot of patience. I am drawn to the nomadic lifestyle.

I talk to truck drivers at my job daily, they keep telling me to go for it.

You guys help people so much and do such an important service.

Truck drivers carry a responsibilty that not many could handle. I find it to be an admirable job despite all the negative stereotypes.

There are so many different pathways to go with a CDL.

Me and my coworker have to deal with Amazon drivers all the time and he said if they can do it I definitely can.

It shocks me how many of them don't know how to slide their tandems.

I have been communicating with the Department of Labor because they offer Workforce Initiative Funding and they cover the Class A program and the Class B program at sussex tech.

Should I just go through the school?

Numb, 201 and tscottme Thank this.
