Anyone have any leads for local work in the Richmond VA area? I am a new grad.

Hey massparanoia, Do you have any trucking exp? Straight truck, small dump? Any air brakes? I had military exp (non verifiable) and flatbed (on permit only for a year) and I got a job right out of school (am in the hiring process) pulling a chem tanker as an independent contractor....you have to look around.... A LOT, and stay away from super carriers...they will just abuse you for a year.

I started driving in 1995. I went to a local community college and took a 5 week driving course. Got my CDL the last day of class and by that evening I was under a load and headed out with a regional carrier that had about 45 trucks. I could have had my pick from several local companies. That doesn't happen any more. Why? Because the insurance companies have taken over the trucking industry and will not let companies hire new drivers. This forces drivers to go with the megameatgrinder companies. I think its time to do some investigating about the relationship of the insurance companies to the SWIFTs, CRSTs and CR Englands of the world.
JCB & Associates Thanks this. -
What for? They are all in each others pockets!! I came off the road for 5 years, after being ore for 5 Years. Its freaking ridiculous that I have to be treated the same as an inexperienced driver. I even went to a school just so I could get rehired. What a load of crap and it is all because of the insurance company. Oh well..... I'm just anxious to get back to work again.
