News article today..not based solely on truckers...
" The fact is, some states are definitely worse than others, and thankfully we can prove it with math!
The fiscally savvy folks over at WalletHub have put together a complex study of which states are the worse for financial penalties. The company looked at 12 key metrics across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. And they found that the worst state for tickets was…Colorado. Illinois came in a close second, tied with Delaware, Arizona and New Mexico.
Though not the outright winner, Illinois has it pretty bad. Their law enforcement automatically considers speeding reckless driving, and as a result, it incurs the highest maximum fine (especially for your second reckless offense, which is just your second speeding ticket). The report also cites the frequency jail time issued for a first reckless offense as well as second offense as to why Illinois is, financially, a terrible place to speed in.
The study also found that 75% of states have “absolute” speed limits, meaning just by going over the limit, the state has enough to convict you of speeding. The other quarter of states have laws that allow your to argue in court that the speeding was reasonable. Also, while no states have mandatory jail time, if you are convicted of reckless driving, expect to spend at least a night in jail.
Across the country, the average maximum cost of a speeding ticket is $742. The highest is Washington state, where you could incur up to $5,000 on a single ticket. Kentucky, Mississippi, and New Mexico are all tied for the lowest, with a $100 maximum fine."

Would like to know where you were ticketed,
for what offense &
how much $ did it cost you?
thanks
I'll start off..... I've received one ticket in 8 yrs of driving. It was for driving on a restricted road in Virginia and the initial cost I was told by the court clerk it was $150, However it turned into much more...After paying the ticket I had got pulled in for a random inspection at a scale. They took my license saying my license had been suspended for not paying the fine. When calling up the court again I was informed I owed another $100 and that the first clerk had told me the wrong amount. In order to get my license restored I had to pay the other $100 and a $500 fine for the suspension to get my license back plus had to get SR insurance of $50 a month for three years! Total $2550 and that doesn't include lost pay from down time which turned into 3 weeks before everything was corrected and I got my license back!
MORAL OF THE STORY, DON'T GET A TICKET!...EVER!

I believe in Illinois 3 tickets in a year is an automatic suspension, n I remember before I had my cdl I had 2. One was consider reckless and I speed about $600 plus school which I screw that up with another ticket. That was years ago and I been ticket free...well idk if u count overweight fines

I once got popped for 98 in a 55 in New Mexico. $238 and 8 points.
-
Most recent was 75 in a 60 on the east side of El Paso. He wrote me up for 74 though so it was under the 15 mph CDL limit.
Never found NM to be particularly strict, especially out in the high desert. I've been clocked at 88 mph and they didn't even flinch. -
