I have been asked to present a seminar on self driving vehicles at a trade show later this spring. I know a bit about them from what I have read and some hands-on experience but I am looking for factual information from others that may have more experience with them. If you can provide links or documentation that is released for public distribution that would be awesome. I understand if you don't want to post some of this in a public forum, so please pm me if you would like.

I know several manufacturers have been field testing and r&d with these vehicle, including loading tests for rail and truck shipment, which is an area I would like to speak on, as well as service and repair. Pictures, obviously not restricted or classified would be great, especially interior photos.

    Thanks!

Autonomous loading, too? Unless you restricted them to certain equipment, that's a programmer's nightmare! Different visual clues for every position on every trailer.

I forget which publication, thinking Finished Vehicle Logistics but have not found the article again, stated VW/Audi was experimenting with automatically driving off the assembly line, parking in storage then on demand driving into cue for loading. In the same article I recall mention of testing auto loading with sensors mounted to the transport to indicate position, of course this was lab grade experiment with only one type of trailer or maybe it was a railcar, but it is a beginning.

If I can find the article I will link it here again.

That sounds grand, fabulous, if i may and in your opinion, how long do we have before the wave autonomy hits or will the water rise slowly?

Slow I'm sure, the younger generation will embrace the technology but many of us will hold out. I really do not look forward to this, I am not a fan of self driving vehicles.

I think we had this discussion once before, somewhere on here. In order to truly see the benefits of autonomous vehicles, all vehicles will need to be autonomous, or at least semi-autonomous. Especially in high traffic situations, inter-vehicle communication will be a necessity. The only realistic way to make that happen would be to ban non-autonomous vehicles from highways at times of high traffic volumes, once the percentage of registered autonomous vehicles reaches a level to make that justifiable.

Well I'm part of the younger generation and I don't trust this technology.
