Anyone care to post their auxiliary tanks or provide any info as to which brand to look into or stay away from. Deezee has a nice black diamond plate combo tank, 43g, 80g or 92g but has a big price tag.
I have a 74 gallon dual tank from the factory so no tips for an aux tank from me other than its worth every penny when you don't have to stop twice a day for fuel. My 74g will take me 1200 miles bobtail and about 800 miles loaded.
Don't forget that 1 gallon of diesel is 7 lbs. A 92g aux tank will weigh down your drive axle by nearly 650 lbs. I'd go with 40-50g tops. Hitch weight is 20-25% of the trailer weight. Every lb on the drive axle will steal about 4 lbs from your hitch load which is the issue I am currently dealing with.
I’ve have seen cab and chassis trucks with cylinder style 100-120 aluminum tanks mounted behind the cab but am not sure how they install them. Those can be picked up for $400-500 from big truck parts places but installation would require a lot of custom fabrication I’m sure. The square diamond plated tanks that you often see mounted in pickup beds are pricey. Around 1500 and that doesn’t even cover installation.
I would like a bigger tank also but the prices are turning me off. I have a 36 gallon aft mounted tank on my ford cab and chassis and it doesn’t last nearly long enough. There is a 48 gallon drop in tank that I found but even they want $1000 for it. Ehh...maybe. At least installation would be relatively straight forward.
