Hi Im new to the board and have been a driver for about 28 months now I started with Swift and stayed there about 9 months and the rest of the time i worked for a local grocery distributor and I recently quit so I have been applying like crazy to jobs hoping to find a decent company that can get me home weekly if possible...I have a clean record except for 1 ticket that is 26mph over that is a little over a year old and its killing me!! so with that said....Star wants set up an orientation for me and they start at .34cpm also con-way stays out for about 2weeks and wants me to come to orientation and is starting # .34cpm because they are only going to count my swift experience b/c the local company only ran in 2 states and the same goes for averitt who is only gonna count my 9 months experience and put me with a trainer for 3 weeks # $600/week. so im at a dilemma what should i do fellow truckers??
Averitt,Con-way,or Star Trans.? which one should i pick?

Averitt you wear a uniform and can't have a beard. Really strict. Like the military.
OTR I would go Conway.
Star out of Nashville? RUN DON'T WALK AWAY!!!
I am surprized any of them would consider you with a 26 over ticket! -
lol thanx driver yeah i have tried alot of companies out there and most turned me down quick because of that

Well I have decided to go with con-way truckload I'm headed down now for my orientation in jacksonville
-
Of the three listed, you picked the one I would have picked. Star used to be pretty decent, but since the Covenant takeover, things have gone downhill from everything I've heard.
Good luck to you! -
Good luck to you hope all goes well

Hi all and especially to Moneybagz.....I'm from the Huntsville area too and I'd be interested in hearing what you think of Conway. I'm 55 and recently laid off, and rather than fight the younger kids for jobs in my field, I've decided to get into trucking. It's something I've been interested in for some time, and now that I don't have kids at home and I love to see the country, it seems like the right time. I'm undecided on if I should go to a company school or the course at Bevill State just down the road. I've looked at a number of companies but Conway, Prime, CRST and Maverick all seem to have decent programs for new drivers. Any insights from anyone would be appreciated.
