I am new to this business. Since I got laid off because of covid, I decided to pursue my dream of my own business. I don't have a cdl( am studying for it), I have a driver. I feel that if I'm not monitoring him constantly, he is late for amazon, doesn't use the eld properly, leaves lights on so batteries die, doesn't communicate/report incidents so I can proactively communicate with amazon, etc. This is an adult with a family. Is this how it is with drivers? I'm considering replacing him. For any job you have, you have to be responsible, is what I think. He has been let go of other jobs and it's always somebody else's fault. Thanks for your help.

    Badmon Thanks this.

What you say... this guy is a huge liability, instead of being an asset for you.

Fire him, then yourself. Without any experience in this industry, you are blindly going into being "a business owner" in the wrong profession. I can tell already you're going down the wrong path because you said Amazon loads.

Please, for your own sake, find a different industry to work in. You'll end up better off in the long run.

A driver like that will harm your business. Replace him with somebody that you can trust. A good driver doesn't need to be watched constantly.

Now when you listen to someone complain about DAC reports and what their old employers say about them you'll realize there is a reason something was reported/said.

The reality is you’re an owner with one truck and zero experience in the industry and that will cause you to be hiring from a pool of drivers that nobody else wants. An experienced driver that doesn’t need to be watched 24/7 already has a good job and won’t take a chance working for a new carrier.

Nobody wants to pay that good driver for
    The peace of mind.
More in his pocket and less in yours, means
You can sleep at night knowing that he can
    Handle whatever comes up.

Only phone call you should get is if the truck
    Breaks down.
