I have heard good things about the Tri-pack but they are pricey. I know that there are others on the market but most don’t have a service network like Thermo king to back. Our new Volvo is not going to come equipped with an APU and I have heard that if you want a truck to last a long time you have to avoid idling. We are buying this truck next week and I want to get an APU installed before summer. What would you recommend?

I have a TriPac on the new truck and had an old one on the previous truck. Any APU or engine powered one is going to cost about the same, even some of the other names like rigmaster, Dynasys, HP2000, etc. A TriPac or a Carrier is just as good as the next. The guys at IdleFreeSystems, a battery based APU, can configure the system as a 7+1, in my opinion the only to do a battery APU, where you have seven total Group 31AGMs on the truck and one Maxwell ESM for starting it.
I went with TK because the dealer is right there in town and those guys are awesome at what they do.Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -
Tripac dude, get something that can be serviced quickly and without waiting for all kinds of delays for parts.
And get it as soon as you can.ladr and Midnightrider909 Thank this. -
Tripac and don't wait till the summer when everyone is busy. And get on the computer and truck paper and do some looking.

www.apucenter.com sells refurbished APU's and new ones and also installs them if needed.

Another tri PAC fanboy.
Electric Apus rarely will run for your 10 hour break, and they won't keep you comfortable...they change the temp but in extreme conditions, wont keep up with your needs.
Tri PAC will heat or cool you right out of the cab.
Mine heats the truck coolant to reduce wear on cold starts.drvrtech77 and magoo68 Thank this. -
Yeah you want to get moving asap with it, get it on the truck and bypass the crap that happen when they bump work to fix reefers that are loaded.
Also mentioned here is the maxwell starting module - Maxwell ESM. If you get a chance to check one out, think about buying it, I have them installed in 75% of the fleet and never ever had an issue with one of them. If I ever get around to it, I will have one back in my pickup this year.Midnightrider909 and Steel Dragon Thank this.
