I am looking into finding the best engine oil to use long term in my truck. After doing some research I have learned it is not a good idea to continually change brands because each brands chemistry is somewhat different and it could create more stress on the engine due to the "break in period" which could be up to 40,000 miles each time the brand is changed. Please if I am incorrect here chime in and let me know. I have narrowed it down to three top brands and am looking for some experienced feedback on which is the best or suggested. Thanks ahead for taking time to reply and help!
The brands are:
1. Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic 15W-40
2. Delo 400 Synthetic 15W-40
3. Mobil Delvac 1300 Synthetic 15W-40

I swear by Delvac.
That being said lots of guys use Delo. They used Delo in the engines of the cement mixers where I worked as well.
I can't think of any application that worked an engine harder than those mixers.
They also used it in the haul trucks for the quarry. -
So long as it meets the specs and designations required by the engine manufacturer I wouldn't waste much energy and time worrying about it.

Given that the mass marketed oils all pass the same standards, I doubt there's any significant difference aside from cost to pay for their marketing.

All 3 are good lubricants, my 7.3 has Delo in it and runs loaded alot, my Sterling seemed to produce an odd smell running Delo but doesn't with Rotella that's in it.

motor oil recommendations and very often brand name are in that golden bible.Albertaflatbed, D.Tibbitt, God prefers Diesels and 2 others Thank this. -
You need to check out "Bob is the oil guy" website, if you're going to get serious about this. Tons of info, thousands of posted analysis samples. Those guys have motor oil in their veins.
Or you could ignore that website, and just run Delvac. It's hard to beat. That being said, there really isn't a "bad" motor oil these days. Even the cheap stuff is good.Albertaflatbed, Bean Jr., Doealex and 8 others Thank this.
