I have used Shell Rotella in all of my cat engines for the last 38 years . Try every brand out there and see which one your engine likes best .

    As said.

I convinced an N-14 to like Schaefer’s 15-40, just took 20k miles or so. It was bottle fed on Rotella.

Usage was 1 gallon/12k miles after it got accustomed.

Don't know if it's the best or not, but we run Shell Rotella 15w/40 in both our 3406b engines. One we've had since new (1995), so I know that's all it has ever had in it.

Wal Mart Super Tech brand is by far the best because it's always the cheapest by about 15-20% than other oils. The truth is one motor oil is as good as another and you can even mix brands to no ill-effect. Been doing it for years with my MBN that's been inframed once in 1.5 million miles. I put half of those miles on it and sample the oil every time its changed. 99% of the time my samples look good and the other 1% usually clear up to normal by the next sample so just a bad sample and not a trend. Guys will argue with me on that and swear by their overpriced oil brand. Ok, keep paying extra for nothing...

    Leopard Thanks this.

I tend to agree with RC as far as putting any brand in and not hurting anything. Although at 40k miles after a platinum on my c15 I switched to Schaeffer's and my usage went down a little. Also doesn't have that awful smell that rotella and delo had out of the crankcase.
