Going to be loaded heavy almost 80k. Is it better to take 80 to SLC then get on 15 or 76/70 through Denver to 15?.

76/70 is shorter but if I'm going to be crawling up more mountains I might not save any time.

Google maps says it only about 40 miles longer to to thru SLC. If you want to save time I would take 80 and 15. If you want the more scenery go Denver up over the big mountains. Last time I was out west like that once you leave Denver not many truck stops till you get to I-15.

Lot of hills in Colorado and even in Utah but the scenery is amazing. I would take 80 to SLC just because it easy drive and lots of truck stops. If you want an adventure then go Denver over the BIG hills. I think Grand Junction CO is like the first truck stop once you leave Denver. Their is or was a couple very small places with truck parking and rest area.

I've been through 76/70 before but that was a couple years ago and running much lighter. I'm not that bothered about the scenery, would much rather an easier drive especially if loaded heavy.

I would run across 80 being heavy, 70 if light.

20+ trucks a week in and out of CA heavy and lite and none of them take 76/70 unless they have a stop there.

Run 80 across, its more miles but will be faster. Taking 84 to Ogden and then back south on 15 will add about 9 more miles I think but will also be faster than dropping down the hill into SLC when you’re heavy.

70 west of Denver and across Utah is a slow road when you’re loaded to 80k.

17 miles and 20 extra minutes by car through ogden. Truck would be at least 30 minutes longer going through ogden.

Parleys summit is 1 mile up and 10 miles down.
    Westbound 80.

80 to 84 to 15 south to 215 to 15. That keeps you off Parleys grade and Downtown SLC. 15 extra mi.

I did 80 to 15 and got through SLC without any issues.

I ran overnight which definitely helped avoid traffic. I think maybe some of these weekend road warriors didn't get the memo about Covid shutdowns and staying home.

    Thanks all.

    Parley.

    *shudder*

You have to love companies that don't want to spend the money for engine brakes.

    Two pups with 24k each.

More smoke than a Snoop Dogg concert.

And then when I got to the terminal, I remembered the 84 trick.

    So much fun that day.
