I'm in case grande az. Going to fortuna ca. I've come from there south before on 299. Very twisty. I'm going up i-5 and was wondering if 36 would be any better. Or maybe 20 at Williams west to 101.
    Thanks.

Hwy 36 is worse than 299 for being narrow and having curves. We run it with logging trucks and end dumps but a 53' would have you hating life. Don't try cutting off of 101 onto Bell Springs Road and cutting over to 36 that way. You'll probably be the lead story on the five o'clock news. They don't call that area Murder Mountain. for nothing.
If you have a 53' trailer 101 is closed near Richardson Grove...length limitation . Don't think about trying to sneak through on 101. The CHP patrols that area out of the Garberville office and they can spot an over length truck real easy. They really look for them. Good source of revenue for the state and county.
Stick with 299 to 101. They've done a lot of work on that road and other than a few places it's easy driving.
Where are you going in Fortuna?

I'm in a 48' food grade tanker. But I'll still avoid it. Too bad california didn't make some areas more accessable.

CA is not a friendly place, especially for trucks.

It's a good feeling when I leave ca and can go a reasonable speed.

The one at Fernbridge? It used to be called Humboldt Creamery but Foster Farms owns it now.
