"Meera Joshi, a New York City attorney who had overseen that city's taxi commission, was named deputy administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in January when President Joseph Biden took office.. Now she is Biden's choice to be the agency's administrator.
Joshi was one of 10 nominations announced by the White House Wednesday, April 14, to fill posts at various agencies related to climate and transportation.
If confirmed by the Senate, Joshi will be the first person to hold the title of FMCSA Administrator since Ray Martinez left the post in 2019. Jim Mullen served as acting administrator after Martinez left. When Mullen retired from the agency last summer, Wiley Deck led the agency as deputy administrator from September until Jan. 20."

I guess if you can oversee NYC taxi's, you can run the whole US transportation industry. Hope she has some good qualified underling's.

My concern is the statements made by Pete about taxing us for every mile driven, as if truckers aren't taxed and penalized enough already......

So it'd be like a double tax, on top of ifta and tolls we already pay....

When you read the comments to articles like these, there is one theme posted constantly.
"Trucks cause all of the damage to the nations highways." The commenters offer no proof, just repeat the same ol line.
Is it the fault of the truck driver that the road has not been built to withstand the truck traffic? Why do HOV lanes, trucks prohibited, seem to wear out as fast as the regular lanes. Lanes 1 & 2 in California seem to be in almost as bad of shape as the 2 right lanes the trucks use.
When Germany built the "Autobahn" in the 30's, it was twice as thick as the Interstate Highways in the US. It has lasted much longer than US highways.
Therein is reason the highways fail in 10 to 15 years. Not built well enough to handle the expected weight loads.
They can tax the vehicles til the cows come home, but until they upgrade the specs, more money won't solve the problem.

I remember reading about that road. The reason the asphalt lasts so long without potholes is the average thickness of concrete under the asphalt is ####ing four feet thick! It lasts, because they built it to last.
