That's why I won't retire. Every paternal male in my family either died early or shortly after retirement. My dad lasted 6 months, and I take a lot after my paternal family...I have a ton of life insurance.

Orientation day 1 complete and I like it so far. Road test went fine even though it was the 1st time driving a 9 speed in 15 years and only tried to put it a 10 speed 6th once. Truck had 175k on it and was smoother than the new Pete that Magnum assigned me. It is a little noisier than the Pete, but it is a Cummins...nature of the beast. They kept it moving along at a quick enough pace that no one fell asleep... (unlike at Magnum). I find out what kind of truck I get tomorrow, they said they less than 50 empty trucks for fleet of 500, and some of those are down for repairs. Heck, they even threw in a gift card for the Huddle House so we all can have a free dinner.

All the newer trucks are 10 speeds..

I remember when I took my roadtest nobody told me it was a 9 speed and i got so frustrated because i kept grinding what i thought was 6th gear.

They got another driver to help do road tests. He just got switched over to his new truck over the week and hadn't pulled his 1st load with it. Road test drivers were breaking it in for him.
