Elk City man killed in crash involving 2 semi-trucks on I-40, OHP says
My brother got caught up in the backup after this accident on I-40 in western Oklahoma. It was a fiery mess.
A blown tire shouldn't cause loss of control, IF you know how to deal with it. Getting ejected at impact was likely due to not wearing a seat belt. Two mistakes that cost that driver his life.

I have had 3 steer tire blowouts and never a issue. If you are paying attention you will get it under control immediately. Last was with 60k of fish on board. First back in '81 was with 42K explosives on board rounding a curve in NW Ontario.

Add enough speed to anything, anything is possible. Managing a blowout at 65 and managing a blowout at 75+ are two different matters.

Another driver gone to soon. Sounds like a very survivable accident if you wear a seatbelt. 3 seconds...... but now his family and friends get to bury this young man.

Ask a car hauler about blowing a steer tire. I will almost bet they have been through it once. I personally have lost 2. Once at 70 mph and the other at just over 70 mph. You can keep control. RIP to the driver.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
