I bobtailed from Lemars,Iowa to Grand Junction Colorado in a day cab in the winter and snowing at the time.I ask my boss if I should have chains and he said you don't chain unless you have a trailer.I was plenty scared driving thru the mountains but did fine.

Uh....Your boss is a moron.....I hope he has money in his wallet when he sends you into CO between Sept-May......CO law says drivers MUST carry chains between Dotsoro and 470........And TTBOMK....That includes Bobtailing....

I agree,he was a moron.Bobtailing or not,all of the west cast requires chains do they not during certain months? The last company I drove for,I refused to go to Utah many times for him because he was too cheap to buy me chains and I was'nt about ready to use my money.Him and I argued over an over,he kept saying Utah don't have a chain law.I told him to call the dot and ask them,he would'nt do that,he'd rather argue with a driver because in his eyes drivers don't know anything.

CO has that Sept-May on I-70 on MM133-MM259 for good reason....It has snowed in as early as Sept and as late as the end of May...Hell....I've run through the San Juan's in late June before and got snowed on...

Cali and chains....When the first flake falls and hits the ribbon anywhere in Cali....Hurry up and get down fast....Otherwise you'll get stuck......CHP/CalTrans call for "Max-chains" for sleet.......

So what does it say about a 9 axle triple 16 steerable Cozad and the pusher? If we cant go in snow do we need to carry chains?

    Thats a lot of chains.

CDOT only requires chains.....On your outer drives.....No "Drag" chains like Cali, OR, and WA, require....

Btw....If you're running OD/OS loads.....You know you have shut it down when it snows anyway.......
