I told you so isn't helpful even though I've got it coming. ") I tattled on myself because I can enjoy a joke even when it is on me.

REO6205...really? You drove 197 down through Maupin more than once...on purpose? You must drive a short rig then, because I wasn't technically legal for length. Big sign after it was too freaking late to turn around. I was able to check my own brake lights a few times.

Yup..should have whipped out my Rand McNally. It would have told me "Don't do it, UturnGirl!! Don't take 197." But as they say: Bad decisions make good stories. Also..can you tell I was exhausted? I asked if I should take 97 all the way to 5 not 84. Duh.

Anyway...thank all of you for your good advice and quick responses. For sure you got me into Bend the right way.

It ain't over yet. Now I gotta get a load out of here. But first..a bit of bitter sweet time to share memories of Mom with my Pop.

I’m going to bet someone’s going to take that design and make covers for the studs.

The new spinners of 2020’s ?

Hey. I've got a related question for you guys cuz I think my dispatcher is full of beans.

Given a 68mph speed limiter. Indianapolis to Bend. Running legal. How many hours?

    Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.

Don't take 197. It's quite windy and turny.
You'll be going 20 mph through that town.

Ending up in The Dalles will be your reward, though, as you can shop 'til you drop with no sales tax at one of the few Kmarts left in the country.

    And there is truck parking.

There was a mill in Maupin years ago. Drove maxis on 197 daily.

Long FLD and UturnGirl Thank this.

They didn't have 53 foot trailers when I ran that road but I hauled a lot of wheat through there in 45 and 48 foot hoppers. Also hauled OS/OW on lowbeds.
It's not an Interstate but it's do-able. I figured as long as you've been driving and with your above average common sense you'd be okay. And you were.
And you're right...now you have some "there I was on Hwy 197" stories to tell.
