In the process of cleaning up a BC block and was wondering about bore brushes, for cleaning the lowers. Are they worth buying or necessary?

When you say lowers? What specifically are you cleaning.

Harbor freight has lots of bore brushes in steel, brass and nylon. Decent quality and inexpensive. They also have a short set that has the drill chuck built on them.

If you're talking where the liner o rings seal, I always just used scotch brite.

I don't like using brushes in areas where something like a broken wire or such can get around the crank. Just personal preference.

I use a stainless twisted wire wheel on the bores.

Like this one-3" Twisted Wire Wheel (Heavy Duty - .014 Wire)Default Title

They barely shed wires and are heavy enough to clean out and don’t get hung up in places. Then follow up with a red scotch pad as suggested.

Just to add…… Keep any rotating tool under its rated rpm. Any Chinese wire wheel will come apart at the end of a 20000 R die grinder.
