Officially own my first truck. ‘97 W900L with a 550 horse 6TS 3406E, and a 13 speed. Driving it home tomorrow. Going to grease it, change the oil and have an annual inspection done when it gets home. Runs at 1400 rpm at 70 mph, so the mileage should be alright (the little Cat info screen on the dash says it averages 6.5 mpg). Next move is to buy the trailer, and I’ll be in business.

Gotta have a truck selfie.
Streetroddreams, misterG and Gumper Thank this. -
I have a 98 with a 6TS, I like that motor. I like that vintage of KW too, easier to get in and work on stuff in the dash than the newer stuff.
I'd pull an oil sample and have your Cat dealer run it to see what your starting with, or up against. Not sure if it's Western States or Tractor and Equipment up there, but I am very happy with Western States' oil sampling service.Gumper Thanks this. -

What's the rear end ratio?
Mine is 3.9 rear end and I'm usually at 1500 rpm @ 62mph...and I get 8.2mpg on dash readout...so I can only imagine what a 13spd swap would do. 70mph results in 16500rpm and crappy 6.5mpgOLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.
