My husband is in truck driving school and boyd brothers has pre hired him. It's his first week, which makes me hesitant to believe that's a good thing. Any reviews for them? if not them, what companies would you recommend with good pay and decent home time for a new driver?

Read bits and pieces of this thread then you be the judge if you think this company is a right fit for your husband.I think the poster of this thread drives for Boyd.He was stuck at that scale house for days and from what I have gathered Boyd pretty much ignored him.http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ckers-advice/246970-stuck-at-scale-house.html

My bf is with Boyd Bros and loves it. Home time has been good and so has the pay. The trucks are kept up and if a driver mentions a problem they will either send him to a terminal or to a shop depending in how bad it is. Your husband would have a 7 week training period. If his trainer lives close to you your husband will be home weekends. Otherwise they will alternate and your husband will be in a hotel during his trainers home times. They will also help with getting his TWIC card.
Just a couple things to be aware of if he chooses them. Training pay is $500 a week until he gets his own truck. The first check is mailed not direct deposited. He will also have to buy some equipment when he first gets his truck. If he gets a sign on bonus, the first installment comes on the check after his first solo load and helps offset the cost of that equipment. There is also a security deposit of $400 on the truck which is taken out at $20 a week. They have a rider policy of ages 10 and up.
We are very happy with them and my bf says he has no plans to change companies.Last edited: Apr 11, 2014

I don't know much about this so why would he have to put a deposit on it if he's just a driver not an o/o? Or buy his own equipment?

The equipment he buys is stuff that goes with him if he leaves the company. I can't remember what all it is. The only things I could think of right off hand are hard hat, safety glasses, and vest. My bf will be home tonight and I'll ask him. As for the deposit it's the same as a deposit on a rental property. It's just to offset their costs if he leaves the company and leaves a filthy or damaged truck.

How many miles does he avg. a week.

My husband just started training. Instead of Boyd Brothers, he chose Venture Logistics. He just started OTR training yesterday. Already did local.

Stay away from Boyd.
