Being polite and professional has gotten me to where I am today. Businesses fail daily due to lack of this I believe. I will try to make it sound like I have done it lots, but I guess I will just have to make that call n see what happens...

It's trial and error, the more you do it the better at it you will get.

I just talked to Transcore...their board rate is $310/month + $200 annual fee...that seems kinda steep...or is that normal?

That is the norm. You can try other loadboards, but transcorr is the most comprehensive one, a lot of big and small brokerages on it.

I have heard that they are one of the better ones. I did manage to have a snoop at the Network FOB site, someone posted a link to a load that I could update it and they had rates posted with the loads that looked pretty good...

When you get quoted a rate that you don't like, just act like you didn't even hear it and state something like, "Sounds good, I'll haul that for you for $xyz...." and go from there...

Or, you can say, "Everything sounds good except the rate, we're going to need to work on that. I get $yada yada for a haul like that." State if firmly and confidently, and go from there.

You've really only got three choices when it comes to real load boards. Transcore, ITS, and Getloaded. We've had them all and just use ITS now. I don't know who would have the most freight in Canada, I guess you'll have to find out for yourself. As other people have stated, you don't need to inform brokers that you are new. They should be able to surmise that from your high MC#. A few may not load a new carrier so you'll have to weed through that. If you already have the 250K cargo that might look good in your favor relating to that. If you are capitalized enough for a couple of months do not enter into a factoring agreement. If you get that tight for cash I would rather haul for brokers that pay fast or that offer a quick pay for a percentage. There are too many nightmare stories about factoring companies to even take a peek in that door.

Last I knew, Internet Truckstop was like $25. The big brokerage company boards are free. Get approved with Landstar and get setup with CH and get yourself a T-number and you can start pulling loads of both of those boards for free. That'll get you started and you won't be out of pocket $300 a month.
