If you want to laugh a lot harder, check the resale on that truck in five years, and the nightmare cost to rebuild that motor and refurbish the emissions system.

When you reman any engine it's crapshoot, how many heat cycles it went through , how hot has it been run lots #### happens that reman process doesn't fix, also the reman process has a range of specs as opposed to a specific spec, so yes it is like getting one out of a junkyard

Well when I finally get this beast on the road and hooked up to a nice 40 foot 5th wheel RV I actually want to get to the campsite instead of camping in the dealer's parking lot :p

    Quick math here.
    2 million mile trucks.
    ,680 vs 379.
    1 mil miles ÷ 6 mpg =166666 gallons x $3 =,$500 k in fuel.
    8 mpg=125000 gal x3=375000
Just saved $125 k to buy a brand new truck.

You would have to save 30k a year for five years to afford a new truck if you bought a 150k rig. The problem is a well tuned 3406b or Detroit series 60 12.7 can get great fuel mileage just like @Diesel Dave has shown, and I have seen myself in a 379.

If you ran 120k at 8 mpg and 2.75 per gallon, and ran the same 120k at 7 mpg in a non emission motor, you would save $5400 a year. Then subtract the $2000-$2500 on DEF, for a realized savings of $3000 a year in the aero. One de-rate and nox sensors replacement, dpf cleaning, tow in for egr valve, cooler, doser injector and suddenly the advantage is completely gone especially if it takes several days to fix.

Ask any real mechanic what they work on with new trucks, is to 10 to 1 emissions to anything else mechanical.

Ha AModelCat: This is the wrong place but I asked you way back for a cell phone to send this to and you declined. Security? I understand. I have evolved some and think a pic of my brides ride will be attached. Just wanted to say I thank something similar to that would look real cool on your truck. Need to keep your twin stacks. I saw a custom made wrecker body years ago like that. From the inside it could be seen the flat bed front corners had crescents in the corners that made room for the exhaust. Just food for thought.
Back on the subject: The truck in the picture broke down two states away due to exhaust regeneration failure. It still does not have 70,000 miles on it. How does income calculate for a commercial vehicle that is repeatedly out of service for emission related problems? KIMG0764.jpeg

    A few things.

Fuel isn't 3 bucks a fashion unless you run California. Last time i filled up on my way home it wad 2.41.

No reason a guy will only get 6. Heck i have gotten 7.3 on this classic when i ran it for maximum fuel economy. Averaging 6.7 since last june when i picked it up. That number will go up if i ever get my lazy ### out to run the over head and clean up the intake and exhaust. Then will go up again when i put better fuel efficient tires on the drives.

Do you actually average 8 with your emissions laden aero truck? Or is that just some number pulled out of thin air? And is that pulling a nice aerodynamic box or is it pulling open deck with loads that have all the aerodynamics of a parachute?

End of the day when comparing apples to apples, a hood with a pre emissions 12.7 or n14 is only going to be about .5 mpg less efficient than a new aero emissions truck. .5 mpg isn't cheap, but it's still cheaper than the lifetime cost that emissions is going to add.

    @spyder7723

We could get 7mpg hauling cows in a 265 wb 379exhd loaded to 84000. It had the 12.7 500, we had an ecm flash done, and swapped to the 171702 borg Warner. Even at 75 mph it would get 6+Mpg. 10 speed and 3.55’s

My dad has a 2007 ISX 475 in a T600 with a 120 inch ICT sleeper and pulls open deck. We swapped the muffler to an M1000463 full flow, disabled some things that cause headaches, wrapped the turbo and three feet of exhaust post turbo, and tricked the fuel pressure sensor to increase it to 22k psi. The truck gets up to 8 mpg and always over 7 mpg unless it’s super cold and he is running the PTO.
