Out of all the Southern African countries it is only South Africa that issues tickets to foreign trucks that can be paid by a date stipulated on the ticket. In all the other countries it goes like this. You have offended (Usually just by been where you find yourself). The fine is $100-00 for example. The officer says you have to go pay it in town , then bring me the receipt.I can then release your truck. This town where payment can be made could be up to 300 miles away. The officer is usually a friendly helpful fellow who says he can do you a favor. If you give him the money he will go pay the fine on your behalf when he goes to town in a couple of days. This way you can leave immediately. So they don't bribe these officers they just take them up on their helpful offer of assistance.

Interesting view from over the ponds. To think we all complain about the DOT here. Imagine the garbage that could be on our roads if companies could "buy" their way to a free pass?
