13'6' is the standard height for most companies that haul general freight. But if you're taller then that pull over, call the cops and ask for an alternate route. One time I was on a hwy in Illinois seen a bridge staring at me 13'5' no place to pull over,so I stayed right there on the road with flashers on, I called 911 officer came and told me id fit.I said are you sure im 13'6' yes im sure.OK if I get stuck you're paying for the damages he laughed. But he was right.

I drove down that road last night. I pulled over to the side of the road for a minute, cursed a lot, then decided to go real slow under it. Made it.

I'll admit it, I'm a @$%# hack whose driving days may be numbered.

i have a western star 4900ex and running 11r24.5 tires making it taller. top of my stacks are barely 13'3.i really sit up very high as it is a tall truck to begin with.you must be driving really tall rubbered trucks to be 13'6.

My CB antenna is taller than the trailer. Good feeler gauge!

Not all bridges have more room in the center. The bridge on Stoney Island south of 95th in Chicago has increasing plate thicknesses as you get to the center.

It was labeled 13'-6" and I made it under. But they repaved and now it is labeled 13'-4"!

    ...speaking of CB antennas...:biggrin_2559:

Quite a few years ago, I was pulling a flatbed. Issued a brand spankin' new Petercar (4xx miles on the odometer), and I KNEW my stacks and the amber light up top were both 12'. So, there I was cruising along on my way to pick up a load when I came up on a bridge marked 12'8".

"No biggie" I thought, as I stayed in the throttle.

    THUNK!

"(expletive)!" I thought for sure I'd just tore up that nice shiney new truck I was driving...that sick feeling in my gut as I tried to think back to what the sign had said. I was PRETTY sure it had said 12'8"..."Did I see it wrong? Was it only 11'8"?". I was scared to even get out and inspect the damage.

Then I remembered my CB antennas reached 13'6". Oops. Oh well. No damage done, but skeerd the bejezus outta me!
