Generally 13'6" is what can fit under, if your pulling a reefer, get a type measure, they are usually a little bit shorter than 13'6"
bridge sign says 13' 6"

Again the KEY is to know YOUR height--and Im sure it has been stated before---while YOUR trailer may be marked 13'6---since most/all company types are running 22.5 lows--you'll find w/small rubber you are more like 13'2 to 13'3---but ONLY one way to KNOW for sure...so measure it--and before you go thinking it is ALL that hard--most any truck stop will have a wide based rolling ladder near the shop...and most will let you use them---Ive done it literally 100s of times--and a 15' tape measure can be picked up for a few bucks........
street beater, x#1 and Floorguy1 Thank this. -
I feel like we would've made it with no problem. Baton rouge LA by the way. We have a 900 cube job on the trailer. Lmao I just wanna know if we would have made it. The bridge wasnt even that low. Now its 45 more mins home yayy -
I am usually 13.5ish sometimes a little scraping is in order under a 13.6 Elmira NY comes to mind. -
I realize the original post was 5 years ago.
All the training I have had has told me the same thing. NEVER EVER BELIEVE THE POSTED SIGN. As you get near the bridge. Always look for shiny spots. Shiny spots tell you when and if some one has hit that bridge. If in doubt? Approach the bridge slowly (less than 2 mph). Then if you do hit, there is no severe damage. Tho the bridges in New York will say 11 foot and have 14 foot clearance. -
Shiny spots just mean somebody has hit it, hell they may have been 16 feeet tall.
All bridges are measured at the lowest point, and much of the time it is way over on the shoulder where you shouldn't be anyway.
I do not remember the highway #, but there is a little 2 lane following a river out of anderson mo. that has a lot of twists and turns. I came up on a 13 ft sign. I had met a couple of reefers, so I just kept going and it turned out to be a rock ledge hanging out over part of my lane, a mile or 2 further was a 12' 2" sign, and same thing.
I f everybody slowed up or stopped for a 13' 6" sign, it would be a perpetual backup. -
I’m 12’2” so I wouldn’t think twice

Every 10 mph adds one half inch.

In Chicago the overpass bridge said 13'4" ft and because another driver told me in New York City even if it say that they measure from the curb. I'm glad I took it slow so the told of my trailer rubbed the front top of my trailer. It was rush hour 6:30 am with massive traffic behind my trailer. A nice Female officer had to revert traffic so I could back out. My rule of thumb since then is 'If the road/bridge sign says 13' 4" ft assume its 13' 6" ft exactly'.
