What do you say or do if you can't understand them?

I get alot of people on the phone I cant understand either due to accents or mumbling or talking 100 miles an hour or talking on a crummy headset. I tell em straight up - I CANT UNDERSTAND YOU -

    "Say again?"

    "Say again?"

"I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time hearing you. I blame the Army, I spent too much time around gun fire and loud music. Can you say that a little more loudly, and a little more slowly? Thanks!"

I get this all the time. It usually tracks like the above conversation. I try very, very hard not to be rude about it. It's not the driver/dispatcher's fault that English is a second, third, or fourth language, and his or her native accent makes it difficult for me. Folks are just trying to make a living same as me, and at the end of the day I may need their service.

I tell them to text me. First off makes it easier to decipher what the message is and secondly...keeps the lies logged:D

I don't know about drivers, but when I speak to a broker who lived all his life in KY or SC,sometimes I can't understand half of what he/she says

I've gotten really good at having pidgin conversations with people who barely speak English. I spell their email addresses back to them phonetically before I get off the phone with them.
