IF YOUR O/O ISN'T SO BAD BUT IF YOUR
COMPANY DRIVER NO MATTER HOW HARD
YOU RUN PER% RATE IS HOW YOUR PAID
CAN NOT TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILY BUT A GREAT
COMPANY TO WORK FOR PAY IS THE ONLY DOWN SIDE

Is it true that the Brown Line is a stain on the industry?

All capitals is a internet form of screaming at the top of your lungs. Hard to read sometimes.

    Anyhow...

If I had a load from Bear Island Paper, Ashland VA (Doswell east) to Des Moines IA with Dow Jones rolls of newsprint due in less than two days... it pays 1000 miles. at .32 a mile = 320 gross. Take 40% for taxes etc you have net of 192 roughly.

15 hours to run this thing. Maybe 18 at the worst in the driving necessary to do this.... 17.30 a hour give or take a little bit in gross pay. Call it 40 dollars for two meals day one and 20 second day prior to delivery. 60 dollars to spend (Not all of it...) and the other 138 or so goes into savings against your family bills for less than two days run. Follow me?

If you cannot make a living at 17.30 a hour out here .... I cannot help you.

If I did this with the 1994 mid roof 120 I bought, fuel at 2.00 would be 450 roughly, maybe closer to 500 at 5.5 miles to gal maybe less due to the high speeds and need to be there... trip pays 1.50 a mile total, truck needs 1.05 to break even, I clear 45 cents. Essentially that money will make the monthly payment of 1200 when it's all over So it's a wash.

    If I was a O/O back then.

    I hear you.

What you want to consider is a smaller company, away from the megas and bottom feeders. And secure a freight that People need. Such as Medicine, specialized etc. Get away from the toilet paper to associated grocers at .30 a mile. Get into something truly valuable on your trailer whatever it might be.

Some companies pay salary close to or around 1000 a week. If that is what you require then you will be looking for those companies.

To me salary is the best way in terms of making sure the drivers make money no matter what the truck does provided the freight is there for everyone. Once you remove the stress of starving on a couple hundred a week and get paid a fixed amount and working well, then it stands to reason it will be a win win all around.
