Is it possible to buy an old rental truck and offer your services to companies and get paid in cash? (No alimony/child support responses, i prefer cash)... Sort of like being on a contract type job but being paid in cash

Don’t expect to go cruising at 70mph; perhaps the latest versions of rental trucks can cruise at 70, but U-Haul trucks once had rear ends which would NOT accept a rear end ratio of lesser numbers.
Like nobody ever thought of that, or returning the vehicle with a tired drivetrain.
The guys who think “cheap toy hauler” get pretty tired of 55mph trips to the desert. -
I'd stay away from rental trucks. They typically lead a rough life. Plenty of trucks for sale, by their owners who probably babied them and can tell you the history of the truck. That's where the deals are.

I know Penske's Hinos will do 72...just takes a while to get there.
But I would stay away from them, usually beat to #### by the time they are done.
Only thing I might consider getting them for is if I had local delivery type work and a good mechanic. Even then I would be careful. The other thing to consider is that the trucks up for sale at this point are going to be 2010-2013 models, which will be less reliable due to emissions. Lookin at you, International. -
Can you imagine the horror stories rental trucks could tell from the less than qualified drivers that operated them?
magoo68, Justrucking2 and bzinger Thank this. -
In my Rollins leasing days there was a produce outfit in Omaha that leased trucks from rollins called " demma produce " aka demolition derby .lol
