C13 oil temp gauge stock vs aftermarket

can you use a aftermarket (teltek) gauge? Or does the computer use the oil temp and or will throw a code if unplugged?

Don't believe CAT has an oil temp sensor, they calculate by coolant temp / engine load and a couple other factors. The gauge is likely reading a sensor in the oil pan sump and supplied by the OEM and has no effect on the engine.

No oil temp sensor on the engine side of a C13, so any oil temp sensor you have is by the truck manufacturer, so you can put whatever you want in for one.
