The undertone of some posts in this thread make me want to throw up. Sometimes cops are just like us. Human. They wanna cheat on thier wives. Or taxes or their qualification test. And they often, for damb sure, will lie to protect a buddy (if it serves justice-lying is still wrong). They even have ex-police officers in prison all across this country. There are a lot of good cops out there that get a lot of bad people off the road and give all kinds of people good help. Im glad we have law enforcement. BUT dont ever forget-treat that person in the uniform like a pit bull or a rattlesnake. Do not trust that you will be dealt with fairly. That pit-bull will take your face off at the slightest inclination, and that cop can do the same. However, I cant imagine living in America without people who want to be in the biggest and baddest gang in the land- LAW ENFORCEMENT.

Cops are like truck drivers. The more time goes by the less good ones we have on the road. I shudder to think about officers in the next ten or fifthteen years. A seasoned veteran of an officer is worth 5 recent academy graduates. But, we need 'em all. I give my thanks to law enforcement- begrudgenly, but thanks.

Whoa there buckaroo! The case you cite about the radar detector the search was deemed wrong. The evidence it turned up was suppressed. If you are going to cite case law you really ought to cite the ones that say what you want them to say.
The post I am talking about was posted by truckersadvocate.

    The canadian customs inspection:

I was missing a sheet of paper, a new sheet i didnt need until past midnight. The officer explained my company's confusion that "past midnight on the 20th" didnt meant enforcement started at 1201am on the 21st. (For the record, i didnt care... lol)
Oh... well i am sorry for the confusion on our part officer... now what?

I search your truck, while you call and get that paper or i write you a 4k fine 1st offense and kick you out. Btw if you come back its a 10k fine. Dont come back without the paper.

He tossed my cab, i called the boss. Officer came in and told me to go outside to use phone. I went out and sat in truck taking notes and talking with boss.

15 minutes later, officer came out and #####ed i was in truck which was impounded for search. Why are you in truck? Now it has to be searched again to make sure you didnt hide something in it.

Really? Apparently that patch of asphalt was designated, only sit in your truck with permission. You'd think i would have been able to tell that by the sign or yellow paint that werent there...?

He seriously tossed the truck again...LOL
Because... you know... i had a bazooka down my pants? Wth???

Apparently the second toss revealed the same thing the first tossing did... i had a foot long tuna sand from subway...

He wanted to check inside my tank and i cautiously answered, yes you may check, but its food grade, it will have to be resealed and you will need to provide a certificate of non-adulteration. Also, you need a moon suot with a respirator because if you pop that dome you will die if you inhale the fumes... and i can loan you a suit and respirator if you really feel the need to look at product.

He declined to search the load.

Next morning i had my paper... and was off to unload.

Us customs is much nicer... they just xray your whole truck and off you go...

Customs on both sides of the border can rip into the truck without any reason, just suspecting something is a justification for it. They still do this even if they can x ray a truck.

Oh and they can do that within 100 miles of any international border by law and supported by the courts.

They stopped me at a International border for no reason at all. You have the right to observe their inspection.

Ive heard lots of horror storues about crossing borders, I have had run ins with Canada, seems they dont like being told their jealous because there not really Americans, even joking caused more grief than it was worth, never had any problems out of US Border / Customs agents, at the borders or check points. But your absolutely correct the law says probable cause, but I think the translate that as cause we want to. Running back and forth to Houston from the LA area, returning loads into San Diego I had the opportunity to talk to them lots, but never had a problem. I also do things like leave my sleeper curtain open ( no co-driver) Roll the drivers window completely down, a bottle of cold water out of the ice chest goes along way.

90 percent of the problems come down to attitude, normally not always you get the same respect you show back, like I said not always.
But if your not going to go somewhere because you cant deal with someone's attitude, you would have to stay at home on the porch.
