The question is do you want to.Rideandrepair and Coffey Thank this. -
I've seen several Manufacturer's MSO [Manufacturers Statement of Orign] the paper from the maker to the first authority to issue a title. They all had 53000 or 55000 GMWR listed. They must have a reason.
Back when NJ joined the IRP they discovered this little gem and made you re-title every new truck at 80K [for a fee] before giving you an IRP license plate.
Same Bassholes also place a lock on the title. The truck needs to be deleted from the original owner's IRP account before the new owner can transfer title...they reject someone's app every day because of this.Coffey Thanks this. -
you should switch the bunk for something like this with the full side door

Simple, tractor alone has 12k steer and 40k rears. There's your 52k. The truck manufacturer had no clue what the truck will do once it leaves the factory. It could be a straight truck or pull a trailer with 1-3 (or more axles).
That said, you'll probably have to register it for 80k or you'd likely be considered overweight with a trailer.firemedic2816 and austinmike Thank this. -
That sleeper looks pretty cozy!

The tag on my big Freightliner reads GVWR 52000, same as yours. It’s rated for actual load on the Tractor. Weight of Truck, plus weight on each axle hooked to a loaded Trailer. In other words, yes you can license it for 80k, and be grossing 80k, with a trailer hooked up, and be completely safe and Legal. 80k gross -34k on Trailer axles, leaves 46k on Tractor. 4K below the rating.

Class 8 GVWR is typically 52k because of the axles. Each drive is rated at 20K each, plus 12K for the front axle. 20+20+12 = 52K.
The GCWR is different, of course and is a registration requirement and not so much a machine limitation.singlescrewshaker and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
