Can we talk about the Detroit Bull Gear?

Here is my bull gear. The valve lash was still in spec and the bull gear had almost no play. It's not something that I would've caught just by taking an accessory drive off. This came off a 97 FLD with 1.5 million. Not sure if it was ever replaced or not.
On a side note, in 2003 Detroit went to a compact geartrain and it's a lot beefier. That's what both a Detroit mechanic and the guy who I bought my remanufactured bull gear from told me. Apparently those don't have a taper bearing anymore and don't fail. I will confirm this when I take my 2003 apart to fix an oil leak behind the front cover. -
My 06 Columbia detriot bull gear went bad. And it was smoking like a freight train every morning start up for about 3 to 5 min.

I had to replace bearing and all. Guy said it jumped timing. New bull gear solved everything.
